A number of Lebanese non-governmental organizations collaborated to raise awareness about citizens\u2019 rights and problems faced by detainees.<\/p>\n

\u201c[We] aim to raise the level of awareness among citizens by building their capacities about their rights, and also by raising their awareness about the problems faced by detainees,\u201d the NGOs said in a joint press release issued Friday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is in addition to stressing the role and commitment of the Lebanese government, respecting Lebanon’s obligations toward the protection of human rights, highlighting the importance of achieving the recommendations of the UPR, and cooperating with the treaty bodies and the Committee of the Convention against Torture.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The NGOs also urged the government to \u201cexpedite the development of a comprehensive plan that reduces arbitrary detention and delay in trials.\u201d<\/p>\n
