Under the patronage of Baalbeck Governor Mr. Bashir Khader, the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering – RDFL organized in cooperation with Alert International a dialogue meeting titled “The Impact of Women in Conflict Resolution” at the Union of Municipalities of Baalbek on March 8th<\/sup>, 2019 on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, in the presence of municipal leaders and representatives of civil society associations and activists.<\/p>\n

The meeting was opened by the Lebanese national anthem followed by a speech of the President of the Union of Municipalities of Baalbek, Mr. Nasri Othman, who praised RDFL and the active women for their role in spreading awareness in the society.<\/p>\n

The Governor, Bashir Khadr, had a speech on the role of women in conflict resolution, especially in Baalbeck region, where security challenges and family problems pose a major security threat to the city of Baalbek. The Governor considered that women have a great role in resolving conflicts. He also insisted on the importance of motivating the girls in this region to learn to get out of the traditional mentality that encourages revenge.<\/p>\n

He concluded by emphasizing his support to the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering \u2013 RDFL\u2019s work and necessity of cooperating between the Governorates and civil society organizations.<\/p>\n

The speech of RDFL\u2019s President, Ms. Leyla Mroueh, focused on the social and political role of women. She mentioned that \u201cBaalbek remains forgotten and distorted because of the conflicts, clashes and the silence of its citizens, although Baalbek is known for its poetry, art, literature, civilization and generosity. Despite the demand for development, the deprived city is still in neglect. But the interest of its municipalities, the Union of Municipalities and the Governor in development have contributed much to the city.<\/p>\n

At the end, Mroueh asked the attendees to set practical steps and recommendations and to adopt a joint work plan with the authorities responsible for maintaining security.<\/p>\n
