RDFL in Nairobi Summit and SheDecides
Kudos to Lebanese Women
NAIROBI, Kenya, 14 November 2019
RDFL Participated in The Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 concluded in the Kenyan capital, with partners making bold commitments to transform the world by ending all maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning and gender-based violence and harmful practices against women and girls by 2030.
Hayat Mirshad the head of media and campaigning spoke at the signature session of Women Deliver: A Feminist Approach to Humanitarian Action, what grassroots women-focused CSOs need to drive feminist humanitarian action, and pointed out: “We are working on societies where the patriarchal system is maintaining harmful practices & the status quo. In humanitarian settings, it becomes even more complicated. We must invest in local expertise & listen to women and girls”
What a discussion! Thank you to our fierce advocates and speakers on today’s #Humanitarian4Her panel. A feminist humanitarian revolution is underway! @KAArnadottir @Chris_MacLennan @ABAlbrectsen @sangeetkayastha @HayatMirshad @Katja_Iversen #ICPD25 pic.twitter.com/RNq5ps8qN3

Proudly and before closing the panel, Mirshad stood up to raise up the Lebanese flag in an outstanding moment where she said: “While I’m standing here today, my feminist sisters continue for the day 29 occupying the streets, revoluting against a sectarian, patriarchal, corrupt system and standing in the front lines of the anti_regime protests. Kudos to the feminist movement and to Lebanese women”.
Also, our member Zahraa Dirani participated in the Summit events as one of the 25×25 young leaders in SheDecides global movement.
The Summit, co-convened by the governments of Kenya and Denmark with UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, unveiled critical new data about the cost of achieving these goals. It mobilized more than 1,200 commitments from around the world, including billions of dollars in pledges from public and private sector partners. It also raised the voices of marginalized communities, youth and grassroots advocates, who were able to directly engage heads of state and policymakers about how to realize the rights and health of all people.
