Dialogue Sessions on Child Marriage and Strengthening Protection

The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering (RDFL), in partnership with Diakonia, is conducting dialogue sessions with local community actors on the issue of child marriage. Participants include mukhtars, doctors, engineers, lawyers, political activists, sheikhs, municipal members, social influencers, professionals working in the social and education sectors, and taxi drivers.

These sessions provide spaces for dialogue among actors from diverse sectors and backgrounds to discuss the issue, exchange perspectives on ways to address it, and develop practical recommendations and proposals that can inform the advocacy process. They also aim to broaden community and institutional support for setting the minimum age of marriage at 18 and advancing the adoption of a law that protects girls and boys from child marriage.

The Lebanese Democratic Women’s Gathering is a secular non-governmental women organization which works with the democratic forces and represents a part of the advocacy secular democratic women’s movement, on the basis of international pacts and treaties, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in order to promote women’s status and participation and empower them, aiming at achieving full equality between both sexes.
