Trainings and Events January – June 2018

– RDFL in partnership with IM Swedish, Diakonia and Kvinna till Kvinna organized a workshop within the project “Combating Violence against Women and Girls” targeting a group of lawyers for the aim of strengthening their knowledge and skills on providing legal support to women and girls survivors of GBV.

– Within the project “Combating Violence against Women and Girls”, RDFL also conducted a two days’ workshop targeting RDFL’s staff who were trained on methods and techniques for dealing with the psychological and work pressure resulting from working with marginalized groups and women and girls survivors of GBV.

– RDFL, a board member in Euromed Feminist Initiative- EFI, organized a national dialogue in partnership with the Ministry of State for Women Affairs and Najdeh association to follow up on the work done by Lebanese authorities and officials for the aim of achieving gender equality and following the outcome of the fourth ministerial meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean on women’s rights.

– RDFL in partnership with UN Women and within the Men and Women for Gender Equality Programme organized three training workshops on child marriage targeting political parties’ representatives, political parties’ youth leaders, and media representatives during January and February 2018. The workshops focused on highlighting child marriage, causes and impacts, and the legal framework and advocacy being done by RDFL and the National Coalition for Protecting Children from Child Marriage to set the minimum age of marriage as 18 years old. The participants has set action plans to support RDFL’s work on ending child marriage in Lebanon.

– RDFL participated in the International Women’s Day march where more than 100 volunteers held banners and posts with messages against Child Marriage. The march was a success where the number of participants exceeded 4000 according to the Internal Security Forces.

– As a celebration of the International Women’s Day and in support to RDFL’s #NotBefore18 campaign, RDFL organized a dinner where parliament members, ministers, journalists, celebrities, partners, and others were invited to celebrate the success of the campaign so far and ensure continuous coordination and support for the aim of passing the law to protect children from child marriage. – The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering – Mount Lebanon Branch organized a dialogue seminar on March 22nd, 2018 in the presence and participation of 10 women who were candidates for the parliamentary elections at the Republic Restaurant in Kaslik. The discussion was moderation by RDFL’s vice president Dr. Caroline Succar Slaiby. The candidates presented their experiences and the challenges they face in running for parliamentary elections.

– An awareness event was held in Btetir, a village in Aley Mount Lebanon, on March 20th, 2018 in cooperation with Progressive Women Union in the presence of more than three hundred women, men, and children raising the issue of child marriage and the legal situation of the proposed draft law.
