RDFL’s campaign aiming to set the minimum age of marriage in Lebanon #NotBefore18
The campaign focuses on the health risks of child marriage, which can put the lives of both the child mother and her fetus, in case of pregnancy, at fatal risk. Before the age of 18, the body is still growing, the uterus is still underdeveloped and the pelvis is not yet fit to sustain pregnancy. This might lead to several health repercussions, including pre-eclampsia (pregnancy poisoning), premature delivery, vaginal rupture, fatal gestational hypertension (blood pressure), psychological disorders, repeated abortions…
For the occasion of the International Day of Child Girl, the Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering- RDFL organized a press conference on October 11th, 2017 to launch its national media campaign against child marriage entitled “#NotBefore18 in the presence of around 100 activists, journalists, supporters, representatives of national and international organisations, officials and public figures.
